Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extended contest that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51M watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase over the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete US average reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
